StarFly

Climbing up the stairs to reach the terrace, the ear to ear grin never left my face. A mug of freshly brewed coffee and the softest blanket tagged along. A night under the stars, it is!

A lot of thoughts occupied my mind. Will I get to see a shooting star tonight? Or will I end up being a feast to the mosquitoes out there? *sigh* Whatever it is, it’ll be worth it! Hopefully?

With a lot of apprehension and bubbled up excitement, I settled on the floor, leaning to the wall. A look at the sky and all my doubts got pushed out of the window. The entire sky was filled with stars. Anywhere and everywhere. The moon looked bigger and brighter than usual. Not to forget, as beautiful as always. Sighing with satisfaction, I kept looking into the sky with wandering thoughts now and then. The time kept passing by and I was into oblivion. I remembered how as a kid, I believed the moon followed me everywhere I went. Childhood was pure bliss! Chuckling at my thoughts, I turned to my right and my smile just got wider.

There I see, a sight to hold, to cherish. A firefly in all its glory. Fighting through the darkness, spreading its brightness. The time went so slow at that point of time. At least, that’s what I felt.*shrugs* I couldn’t figure out what to behold. The stars or the firefly. My poor little heart got all selfish to choose just one between them.*pouts*

Out of no where, a random thought got settled in my mind. The stars, the moon and the fireflies shine to their brightest during nights. On the irony, the entire concept of having a night is to shoo away the brightness and welcome the dark. Why is that the day’s light has no darkness but the night’s black always has a source of light? Tricky, right? Maybe, not!

It is said that after every downhill, there’s always an uphill. After every night, there’s always a day. So, maybe, the little light in the dark night is life, trying to say, “Hold on , Mate! I’m not done with you yet. You have a long way to go before you sign off saying ‘Peace out!’”. Sounds extremely philosophical? But that’s how life is right? Holding on to your roots with a hope.

Hope, a simple four-lettered word that has a huge impact on ones life. No matter how rough the phase is, a hope is all you need to face the worst with a smile. Now, seeing how important this whole ‘Hope’ thing is, how difficult is it to have a hope in life? Looks as difficult as solving a whole calculus problem inside your tiny head! Yes, no, maybe?

Well, it isn’t as strenuous as it seems to be. It’s as small as a star or a firefly. When a tiny creature or a small point somewhere so far can light up the entire dark sky, then can’t one hold on till the sun rises and shines? Why can’t one run from downhill to scream on top his/her lungs on reaching the peak with sparkled eyes? How difficult is it to plant and water an imaginary hope tree inside your head and heart when we, the humans have patience to maintain a whole kitchen garden? To put it in a nut shell, it’s an easy-peasy task!

The realization made me smile. A real, genuine smile. With this new theory in my head and an empty coffee mug beside me, under the stars, I snuggled into my blanket and called it a night, to welcome a beautiful day. A day with a hope!
